Cassidian Gains TETRA Contract for Metro Line in Zhengzhou, China (6/13/12)
Cassidian was selected to deliver digital TETRA radio communications coverage for the first metro line in Zhengzhou, the capital and largest city of Henan province in the central plains of China.
Six metro lines are planned in Zhengzhou with a total length of 189 kilometers. The construction will be divided into three phases. The first phase will build metro line 1, covering a total length of about 35 kilometers and serving 22 stations. This line will enter service in 2013. The radio communications system for this first metro line in Zhengzhou is to be installed by Cassidian and will be a key element in sharing a single control center with the other five lines scheduled for construction by 2015.
The TETRA system will comprise a switch at the core of the network, 23 base stations and seven dispatcher station controllers (DSC), making it possible to communicate with users in the field equipped with a TETRA portable radio. The system will provide communications support for train dispatching, operation and management, and security for the Zhengzhou Metro, serving about 400 wireless users daily. Cassidian will install the entire TETRA system and provide the necessary training and related technical support services.
Starting in 2009, China has planned to build around 80 mass transit rail lines in 22 cities by 2015 including the metro in Zhengzhou. Cassidian has already provided TETRA radio communications systems for 10 other metro lines in China including Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Shenyang and Nanjing.
