MissionCritical Communications surveyed its readers involved in firefighter-agency communications in an e-mail survey the week of May 19. The results revealed that less than one-third of respondents use digital technology.
Of the agencies that use digital networks, nearly 63 percent experience problems with audio quality often or sometimes. About 47 percent of respondents suggest analog technology is the best option for firefighter-agency communications, while about 42 percent said digital technology should never be used for tactical fireground communications. About one-third of respondents suggest that updated operational and training requirements are necessary for digital technology.
