RadioResource Media Group launched “Digital Radio in the Americas: A Guide for New Deployments and System Upgrades,” its third e-book in the MissionCritical Communications Educational Series. The free e-book covers five digital radio technologies — Digital Mobile Radio (DMR), digital Private Mobile Radio (dPMR), NXDN, Project 25 (P25) and TETRA.

The 90-page e-book includes four sections and tracks the technologies as they are applied in vertical markets, including critical infrastructure industries (CII) such as utilities, oil and gas firms and transportation agencies; private wireless; and public safety. The first overview section includes technical information on each standard, including a comparison chart and dispatch considerations and apps for each standard.

The next section offers case studies from three CII users on how they have put digital standards to use in their organizations. The third section details private wireless case studies for digital standards. The final public-safety section addresses funding digital networks and advice for open procurements.

Twelve industry sponsors — Avtec, Cobham (formerly Aeroflex), EF Johnson Technologies, The Genesis Group, Hytera Communications, Kenwood, Relm Wireless, Selex ES, Survey Technologies Inc. (STI), Televate, Telewave and Tusa Consulting Services — helped make the e-book free to download with registration.
