A wide range of topics made the list of most-clicked news items from the MissionCritical Communications website this year.

Private-equity firm Silver Lake’s $1 billion investment in Motorola Solutions in August topped the list of most-clicked stories of the year. Readers were interested in a variety of Motorola’s activities throughout the year, with the company’s tender offer, acquisition activity, product news and relocation of its headquarters to Chicago all garnering interest. Competing manufacturers Harris and EF Johnson Technologies also had news in the top 20 list.

Broadband was in the news this year, with the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) working toward completing state consultations and finalizing a request for proposals (RFP) for the nationwide public-safety broadband network (NPSBN). News surrounding the Los Angeles Regional Interoperable Communications System (LA-RICS) heated up in March when Los Angeles County voted to halt construction of the network and culminated in December when the city of Los Angeles opted out of the system.

The FCC grabbed several headlines this year with news of its plan to close field offices. The commission also heard interference-related complaints ranging from amateur radio operators to lighting devices.

Project 25 (P25) technology also attracted much reader attention. The Department of Defense (DoD) announced in September that all LMR procurements must conform to P25 standards, and a trunked interoperability event hosted by Motorola attracted nine manufacturer participants in August.
