The National 9-1-1 Program announced a new cooperative agreement with the National Association of State 9-1-1 Administrators (NASNA). With the resources provided in the cooperative agreement, NASNA will identify and fund tasks to attain both its immediate needs and long-terms goals.

NASNA’s stated purpose is to:

• Promote information sharing among states with programs dedicated to implementing 9-1-1 emergency communication systems

• Assist states with resolving issues necessary to accomplish statewide implementation and maintenance

• Encourage the establishment of a 9-1-1 coordination person within each state or province

• Identify and recommend minimum standards for 9-1-1 emergency communications systems

• Identify and recommend appropriate legislation or rules concerning the administration of statewide 9-1-1 system programs

• Serve as a knowledge resource

NASNA’s initial task will be to establish an infrastructure to support the organization’s members. Subsequent tasks will expand to include collecting, organizing, assessing and disseminating the valuable information each state makes available to the group.

NASNA membership consists of representatives from 38 states, although the organization hopes its new infrastructure and services will help increase membership to include representatives from all 56 states and territories.

The National 911 Program provides federal leadership to support and promote optimal 9-1-1 services.
