TCS Text-to-9-1-1 Interoperability Lab Set to Open in April (3/26/14)

TeleCommunication Systems (TCS) plans to open a text-to-9-1-1 interoperability lab in April. The TCS Emergency Services IP Network (ESInet) Interoperability Lab will allow NENA i3-compliant call-handling solution vendors to test their text-to-9-1-1 interfaces and software prior to deployment by Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG 9-1-1) public safety answering points (PSAPs).

Vendors will connect to the lab remotely through a secure Web portal connected to TCS’ lab in Seattle.

“The ability for PSAPs to accept and process SMS text messages from the public is crucial as the nation takes the next step toward NG 9-1-1,” said Thomas Ginter, TCS Safety & Security group vice president. “The TCS ESInet Interoperability Lab will serve as a catalyst for this future public safety need, allowing both PSAPs and call-handling solution vendors to move forward confidently, knowing that their systems which process those messages meet NENA i3 standards.”
