The IJIS Institute — a nonprofit organization that focuses on mission-critical information sharing and safeguarding for justice, public safety and homeland security — released a white paper on National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) Version Migration. The IJIS Institute Technical Advisory Committee (I-TAC) commissioned the white paper, which is available here.

The paper provides a summary of the ways organizations typically version and respond to changes in the NIEM evolving over time and based on changing business needs.

Joel Byford, the paper’s primary author, is the chair of the IJIS Institute I-TAC Committee and a justice and public-safety architect at Microsoft. He is also a technology strategy consultant who has been working in the field of public safety and justice for more than 12 years.

The I-TAC develops policies, programs, and training or educational materials in support of the Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of Justice Programs (OJP) information sharing initiatives that can be adopted or disseminated by industry as a whole.
