EWA Supports LMCC Petition for Expansion of Conditional Licensing Authority (7/25/14)

The Enterprise Wireless Alliance (EWA) said it “strongly supports” the Land Mobile Communications Council (LMCC) petition seeking expansion of conditional licensing authority to entities with qualified applications in the 470 – 512 MHz, 806 – 824/851 – 866 MHz and 896 – 901/935 – 940 MHz bands.

EWA said that extending this conditional licensing authority will enable the spectrum to be placed into operation more quickly, which serves the public interest. EWA also pointed out that this expansion is supported by the frequency advisory committees (FACs) in LMCC, organizations that are “well qualified to assess whether this licensing option can be implemented in these bands without presenting difficulties” and urged the FCC to proceed promptly to take the necessary steps to implement the LMCC’s proposed rule change.

In May, the LMCC filed a petition for rulemaking seeking expansion of conditional licensing authority under Section 90.159(b) of the FCC’s rules to the 470 – 512 MHz, 806 – 824/851 – 866 MHz and 896 – 901/935 – 940 MHz bands. In June, the FCC requested comment on the petition and denied LMCC’s request for a blanket waiver pending the resolution of the rulemaking proceeding.
