FCC Requests Comment on Offshore Spectrum Needs
The FCC is requesting comment on how it should interpret language of the Security and Accountability For Every Port (SAFE Port) Act, which establishes a process for commercial mobile service providers to voluntarily elect to transmit emergency alerts. The act establishes a grant program for installing technologies in remote communities enabling residents there to receive emergency alerts. The commission is asking how it should interpret "remote communities." The FCC also is requesting direction on the term "commercial mobile service." The deadline for comments is Feb. 6, and reply comments are due Feb. 22.
