Squirrels Blamed for Verizon 9-1-1 Outage (10/10/14)

Verizon Wireless customers in upstate New York reported experiencing 9-1-1 outages Thursday morning, according to several local news reports.

Affected counties included Albany, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Washington, Warren and Saratoga. Service was restored by Thursday afternoon. Customers who were impacted by the outage received a recorded message when they tried to dial 9-1-1.

A Verizon Wireless spokesman told timesunion.com that it appears squirrels or some other type of animal chewed through an above-ground fiber cable, causing the outage.
