Kyocera Sponsors ARRL Kid Field Day Exercise

Kyocera will sponsor a special event station for kids during the 2016 American Radio Relay League (ARRL) field day exercise. Field day is a contest where amateur radio operators from around the country take their stations out into the field and attempt to make contact with as many other field day stations as possible during the contest.

The object is to get experience in working in less-than-ideal conditions and to learn and have fun. The kids build their field day station themselves, as well as set it up, operate it and take it down with minimal help from adults. ARRL reserved a special event call sign (K1D) from the FCC for the event.

The kids will construct and test the solar power supply ahead of time. Kyocera's KD140SX-UFBS solar panel will be used with a Genasun charge controller and an AGM 100 amp hour battery.

They will make a video of their construction and testing and post it to the website at http://www.hamradio.world.
