Business owners and executives serving the private wireless industry raised more than $3,400 for the Enterprise Wireless Alliance (EWA) Joseph B. Vestal Endowed Scholarship fund at Old Dominion University (ODU). The scholarship supports students working toward degrees in fields of study related to the wireless industry.

Funds were raised through individual donations and a silent auction held in early October during the Wireless Leadership Summit, an annual conference for industry executives.

“The future of the private wireless industry depends on scholars exploring the professional opportunities available to them within our industry,” said EWA President Mark Crosby. “The EWA-Joseph B. Vestal Scholarship supports students interested in a career in wireless and honors the lifelong achievements of Joseph Vestal, a distinguished alumnus of ODU.”

The scholarship, established by EWA, awards financial aid to full-time ODU students enrolled electrical engineering technology or information systems management studies who intend to pursue careers in wireless applications or telecommunications.

Items for the auction were donated by the following 12 Wireless Leadership Summit exhibitors: Altec, Clear-Com, EMR, Freedom Communications, Harris, MissionCritical Communications magazine, Opt-In Wireless, pdvWireless, Talley, Tigerpaw Software, Unication and Washington Radio Reports.

“We are very thankful to the exhibitors who donated auction items,” said EWA Executive Director of Membership and Marketing Sarah Beerbower. “Each year they up the ante by donating high-value items that attract bidders. This year, we achieved a new record of funds raised during the Wireless Leadership Summit.”
