Motorola Solutions acquired Gridstone, a privately held Australian technology company that develops mobility solutions for public-safety agencies, governments and enterprise.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Gridstone is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Motorola Solutions.

Motorola Solutions said the acquisition builds on its experience in delivering essential communications and workflow solutions and services throughout Asia Pacific, adding expertise to develop highly customized mobility applications for the region. Gridstone develops mobile applications across many platforms, with a specialist capability for native applications on Apple’s iOS.

Iain Clarke, Motorola Solutions corporate vice president Asia Pacific, said Motorola’s expertise in developing advanced mobile solutions and services would complement Gridstone’s ability to simplify complex workflow challenges through smart technology.

“In today’s public-safety and enterprise environments, technologies that increase mobility are delivering enormous benefit by helping people to work more safely and efficiently,” Clarke said. “Gridstone develops mobile applications that are well-designed, easy-to-use and proven in helping organizations overcome their most complex workflow management problems. Its applications provide clear and immediate benefits for customers — from reducing manual administration tasks so police officers can spend more time in the field to automating processes to increase efficiency within industrial environments.”

Gridstone complements Motorola’s Convergence Suite of software, which enables seamless communications and enhanced awareness by combining the best of digital radio networks with broadband data capabilities, a statement said. The acquisition represents a key step toward Motorola Solutions’ vision to deliver smart public-safety solutions via its Next Generation Mobile Intelligence (NGMI) architecture, which delivers secure and actionable mobile data to first responders so they can make intelligent decisions to protect communities.

Gridstone will continue to deliver its existing contracts and grow its portfolio of products, including its public-safety mobility platforms.
