German Tramway Deploys TETRA Network with Hytera Gear
Wednesday, March 08, 2017 | Comments

Würzburger Straßenbahn, a tramway network in Würzburg, Germany, deployed IP-based TETRA radio technology from Hytera Mobilfunk. The collaboration between application partner Trapeze from Switzerland and Würzburger Straßenbahn prepares the public transport system for the future.

In addition to voice communications, the new system is also responsible for the data communications of streetcars and buses.

Hytera Mobilfunk supplied five new compact base stations. The redundantly designed network provides the software-based routing function centrally in the radio system. The redundancy also works to protect the voice recorder operated within the IP node equipment rack from failures.

Application partner Trapeze took over the set-up of the Intermodal Transport Control System (ICTS) over the ACAPI interface provided by Hytera. The ICTS system is responsible for all communications between the control room, trains and buses. Trapeze is a worldwide provider of solutions for dispatching personnel and vehicles, operating control technology, passenger information and ticketing.
