BroadMap Wraps Up PPDR Requirements, Moves to Broadband Procurement

Europe’s BroadMap project took another step toward procurement of interoperable next-generation broadband radio communications systems for public safety and security, leaders said at the final workshop 6 April. The project goal is to have a system deployed by 2025.

The next step is the preparation of the submission of a proposal to bid in the future competition in the framework of the SEC-04-DRS-2017 call on broadband communications systems, said David Lund, BroadMap coordinator. Phase one will see a plan and tender procedures, based on the set of specifications and tender documents for procuring prototype communications equipment and prototype instruments for validating the components of the foreseen communications system.

The deadline is 24 August. More on the procurement is available here.

The workshop gathered more than 100 participants from 18 countries representing practitioners and all interested stakeholders of the public protection and disaster relief (PPDR) community. The BroadMap team presented in detail the methodology adopted throughout the project to collect and validate practitioners’ needs and requirements, to translate them into technical specifications, to elaborate candidate solutions and organization schemes, and to produce transition road maps toward interoperable broadband radio communication systems.

Christoph Castex, European Commission project officer responsible for the project, stressed the European motivation for European Union (EU) interoperable broadband for PPDR. He said the BroadMap project had successfully delivered the basis for the technical requirements for the pre-commercial procurement call launched by the European Commission under the Horizon2020 program in March. BroadMap provided a comprehensive database of practitioner needs and requirements, based on the largest consultation of PPDR organizations ever carried out at the EU level.

You can find all the presentations made during the workshop on the BroadMap website.
