Motorola Touts 1,000th TETRA System Delivery, Berlin Center

Motorola Solutions said it delivered its 1,000th TETRA digital radio system and its 25,000th base station out of its TETRA Center of Excellence in Berlin. The 1,000th TETRA system was delivered to the prison in Berlin´s Tegel district and will be used to provide mission-critical communications to staff.

Motorola Solutions has provided TETRA systems for more than 20 years, since the first TETRA network was deployed at Oslo Airport in Norway in 1997. Many of the 1,000 systems, which were staged in Berlin, are deployed across the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. These include numerous nationwide TETRA networks including in Austria, Denmark, Norway, Portugal, Ireland and the United Kingdom.

Globally, customers from more than 100 countries have been provided with mission-critical communications networks from Motorola Solutions based on the TETRA standard. Motorola Solutions has not publicly announced TETRA contracts in North America, however.

Many of the TETRA implementations also include the operation and management of the network as well as services. In Germany, Motorola Solutions has implemented more than 50 TETRA systems for multiple sectors including airports, utilities and public transportation organizations.

The company’s Berlin center houses technology experts that configure tailor-made TETRA digital radio infrastructure for the global market. The services range from system design and radio network planning to technical training for customers, quality assurance, supply chain management, logistics and customer service.

Every year, more than 50 factory acceptance tests are conducted together with customers in Berlin with a customer satisfaction of more than 96 percent. Customers also experience next-generation technologies and solutions, including the evolution of TETRA, Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) and Long Term Evolution (LTE), as well as the future of command-and-control solutions, network security, and voice and data technology.

Moreover, the certified team in Berlin every year conducts more than 150,000 maintenance and repair transactions for infrastructure and terminals, which include providing tailored service solutions such as end-to-end repair logistics, secure equipment handling and same-day repair services for more than 200 reseller and distribution partners.
