President Donald Trump nominated David Redl for administrator of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA).

Redl is currently chief counsel for the U.S. House of Representatives Communications and Technology Subcommittee. He also serves as a counsel for the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Prior to his work with the house, Redl held several positions, including director of regulatory affairs at CTIA.

In a statement, House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Greg Walden, former House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton and Communications and Technology Subcommittee Chairwoman Marsha Blackburn praised Redl’s nomination.

“David has been with the committee since 2011, and in that time, he has been a valuable member of our team,” the statement said. “David worked diligently to improve federal and commercial use of spectrum to meet the needs of ever-growing consumer demand for broadband. David’s experience with the committee and his vast knowledge of communications law and policy makes him well suited to head the agency that will be at the forefront of promoting safe, secure communications networks, broadband deployment and the efficient use of federally held spectrum.”

In a separate statement, FCC chairman Ajit Pai also praised the nomination of Redl.

“He is also a skillful expert in communications issues central to NTIA’s mission of ensuring that the internet remains an engine for innovation and economic growth,” Pai’s statement said. “The FCC has long had a close partnership with NTIA, and I personally look forward to continuing that relationship with that agency under David’s leadership.”
