Saudi Water Conversion Plant Selects Hytera TETRA Network

Hytera delivered a TETRA solution to Ras Al Khair Plant of Saline Water Conversion Corp. (SWCC) in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Ras Al Khair desalination plant is the largest of its kind in the world, a combined power and desalination plant converting more than 1 billion liters of seawater into potable water each day and 2,400 megawatts (MW) of electricity for the eastern province of Saudi Arabia. The plant is located in the Ras Al Khair Industrial City, 75 kilometers northwest of Jubail.

The daily operation and management of the plant relies on instant and reliable radio communications, hazardous environment in certain areas gives special requirements to the radio terminals, which must be intrinsically safe.

The TETRA solution was customized with 320 – 380 MHz band frequency support. And the design of redundancy and hot backup fully complies with the requirement of High Commission for Industrial Security (HCIS) of Saudi Arabia. In addition, the new PT790Ex intrinsically safe TETRA portable radio was also offered for a high level of protection.

Upon the completion of system installation, site acceptance test (SAT) was done to demonstrate the features and functions. And on-site training was conducted to coach the plant managers on how to use the system properly and further improve their working efficiency and safety.
