Second Round of SLIGP Grants to Begin in 2018

A second round of State and Local Implementation Grant Program (SLIGP) grants will begin in March 2018.

The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) will release the notice of financial opportunity (NOFO) for SLIGP 2.0 grants sometime in September, said Marsha MacBride, deputy associate administrator, Office of Public-Safety Communications, NTIA.

The NOFO will close in December, and the grants will begin in March. The NTIA will then release a second increment of funding around December 2018. The SLIGP 2.0 grants will expire Feb. 29, 2020.

MacBride said that there were large amounts of money that had not been spent in the first round of SLIGP funding, and several states already voluntarily de-obligated those funds to make them available in the second round of financing. All grants from the first round of SLIGP will expire in February 2018.

MacBride did not specify the amount of funding that will be available for the next round of grants.

This second round of grants will finance slightly different activities than the previous round, but the grants are still planning grants and cannot be used for construction, MacBride said.
