Finnish network operator Digita signed a long-term contract with Suomen Virveverkko, which forms part of the State Security Networks Group Finland, on construction and installation services for the Virve nationwide TETRA network, which is being overhauled. The agreement will be valid for four years.

The Virve network is the national radio network for public services, and users include public authorities, municipalities and other actors critical to national emergency supply. Digita maintains communications networks considered critical to society and provides reliable network services for terrestrial TV and radio broadcasting, and for telecommunications networks.

"We are delighted that our long-term cooperation with the State Security Networks Group Finland will continue,” said Juha-Pekka Weckström, CEO of Digita. “Our company has solid expertise and experience of the design, construction, maintenance and operation of security-critical radio networks, which our national organization is engaged in implementing.”

In 2014, Airbus Defence and Space was awarded a 30 million euro (US$37.4 million) contract to modernize Virve. The contract involved renewing about one-third of the TETRA network’s elements and update software during the next five years.

"We secure Finland’s crisis management and information society services nationwide and in all circumstances. We have been working with Digita for a long time; the quality and reliability of Digita's services were key criteria when deciding on installation services for the Virve network, which will be overhauled," said Jarmo Vinkvist, CEO of Suomen Virveverkko.
