900 MHz NOI Comment Date Extended Until Oct. 2

The FCC extended the comment date on its 900 MHz notice of inquiry (NOI) until Oct. 2, with reply comments due Nov. 1.

Two utilities in the paths of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma requested the delay. Florida Power & Light and the Edison Electric Institute filed a joint motion for extension of time because of emergency conditions. The utilities said they and other critical infrastructure industry (CII) entities in the Southeast are focused on disaster recovery efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey and disaster preparation efforts for Hurricane Irma and won’t have time to file comments by the original Sept. 18 deadline.

The commission said to accommodate parties that have been assisting in the recovery and preparation, it extended the deadlines.

In August, the FCC opened a proceeding through an NOI to examine whether rule changes in the 900 MHz band would be appropriate to increase access to spectrum, improve spectrum efficiency, and expand flexibility for next-generation technologies and services.
