On the trip, Pai will focus on how bridging the digital divide can improve public safety. In particular, he will explore the benefits that next-generation 9-1-1 (NG 9-1-1) can bring to rural America. To discuss these issues, the chairman will visit several 9-1-1 call centers and meet with public-safety officials.
The chairman will begin his road trip Sept. 19 with visits to 9-1-1 call centers in Noblesville, Indiana, with Rep. Susan Brooks and in Harrisburg, Illinois, with Rep. John Shimkus. On Sept. 20, he will attend an event in West Plains, Missouri, with Rep. Jason Smith and an event in Ozark, Missouri, with Rep. Billy Long — each of which will focus on rural broadband. Pai will visit an emergency operations center in Joplin, Missouri, and meet with public-safety officials.
During the road trip of more than 800 miles, Pai Sept. 21 will visit his home state of Kansas. In the morning, he will stop by his hometown of Parsons, and he then will attend the Kansas Broadband Conference in Wichita. On Sept. 22, he will visit a 9-1-1 facility in Wichita to learn more about the sunflower state’s NG 9-1-1 program.
