Bravo’s TETRA Network Supports Hajj Season

Airbus provided local and independent radio networks for critical telecommunications provider Bravo to cover events during the Hajj pilgrimage event. Bravo supported a governmental client in the western part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from 30 August to 4 September.

Bravo launched its initial TETRA services in August in the western region of Saudi Arabia to cover the holy sites, Makkah, Madinah, Jeddah and Yanbu. In the first phase, 84 sites equipped with TETRA infrastructure were planned to be built prior to the Hajj season.

Bravo and Airbus supplied proven TETRA infrastructure technology, such as switches and base stations, and TETRA devices. Bravo’s client and other governmental entities used the latest network from Airbus, while engineers and experts supported Bravo by monitoring and operating the secure radio infrastructure and the applications.

Last year, Bravo selected Airbus and Motorola Solutions for its TETRA network. As well as its support to Bravo, Airbus contributed to the smooth running of this year’s Muslim pilgrimage in the vicinity of Mecca in Saudi Arabia with resilient radio communications technology.

The Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca, called Hajj, is one of the largest gatherings in the world. Its organization entails growing logistic challenges, as the number of pilgrims has increased in recent years. This year, more than 2 million Muslims gathered in Mecca. This has led the Saudi government to arrange new security measures to protect believers.

Public telecommunications company Bravo is the only licensed operator in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia providing governmental, industrial and commercial sectors with services and solutions addressing instant collective wireless communications.
