House Subcommittee Advances FCC Reauthorization Bill

The House Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, chaired by Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), advanced legislation to reauthorize and reform the FCC to the full House Energy and Commerce Committee.

The bill will amend the Communications Act of 1934 to reauthorize appropriations for the FCC, to provide for certain procedural changes to the rules of the commission to maximize opportunities for public participation and efficient decision making, and for other purposes.

“The FCC is charged with the administration of the Communications Act and other statutes that govern our country’s communications policy,” Blackburn said in an opening statement. “The agency plays an increasingly important role as society becomes more dependent on technology, and the authorizing statute needs to be updated to reflect the current state of the communications marketplace.”
