Leonardo Wins TETRA Contract at Saudi Arabian Airport

Leonardo will supply the King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with a TETRA end-to-end solution operating in a customized frequency band through Selex ES Saudi Arabia, its subsidiary in Saudi Arabia.

The system will provide thousands of users in different airport operations sectors with reliable and secure mission-critical voice and data communications.

Innovative Contractors for Advanced Dimensions (ICAD), Leonardo’s local partner, will provide the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) with secure communications throughout KAIA, the busiest airport in Saudi Arabia and one of the largest in the world.

The TETRA project will be deployed within larger ICAD packages providing special airport system/information and communication technology (SAS/ICT) capabilities for the KAIA Development Project, which is designed to increase the airport's yearly capacity.

Leonardo will deploy the entire TETRA IP solution at the beginning of next year. Deployment will include a TETRA core network, gateways to other telecommunications systems, radio base stations and a subscriber radio fleet based on Leonardo’s new rugged handsets and mobile terminals. The company will also provide installation support, testing and final handover.
