PMRExpo 2017 Sets Attendance Record

With its long and rich history of trade, Cologne, Germany, is an ideal location for the PMR Expo. This year’s conference was buzzing with commerce all three days, beginning 28 November.

With more than 200 exhibitors and 4,000 attendees, the 2017 PMRExpo was the largest to date, and the event has proven to be a leading European trade fair for all technologies in the professional mobile radio (PMR) and control room space. Plus, its central location in Cologne at the beginning of the holiday season is icing on the cake for all who attend.

In addition to an effective marketing campaign, the PMeV show organizers strategically arranged days by topic to ensure good traffic every day, but the real success of the show may be attributed to the fact that each country in Europe is at a different stage in the critical communications Long Term Evolution (LTE) evolution because of spectrum, financial and regulatory differences. As a result, PMR is widely used, and LTE where available, tends to work in tandem with it.

New products were announced by a handful of companies. Cobham AvComm announced Hytera Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) capabilities and TETRA base station test capabilities on the 8800SX and TETRA capabilities on the 3550R radio test sets. Freedom Communications Technologies unveiled a comprehensive TETRA trunked mode operation (TMO) handset test solution. Hytera showcased a hybrid LTE-PMR (DMR and TETRA) radio and integrated command and control center, and Motorola Solutions presented the second generation of its future incident command concept.

Presentations included the importance of an LTE to control room interface standard, trends in PMR broadband, cybersecurity threats, shared networks and control centers, secure communications for critical infrastructure, control center security and more. Watch for articles on these topics in RadioResource International and World News in 2018.

Until next year, auf wiedersehen.
