Colombia’s Ministry of Technologies of Information and Communications (MinTIC), in conjunction with the National Spectrum Agency (ANE), published for consultation a second draft resolution spectrum assignment of the 700 MHz and 1.9 GHz bands. Under the new consultation, 20 megahertz of spectrum in the 700 MHz band will be reserved for emergencies, according to press reports.

The ministry said the number of blocks in the 700 MHz band has been increased from four to seven in the form of 2 by 5 megahertz blocks between 703 and 748 MHz, paired with 758 to 803 MHz. In addition, MinTIC said smaller providers will be prioritized when choosing coverage areas. A further 5 megahertz at 1.9 GHz will be made available.

"This text was presented after carrying out the respective analysis of the comments of the sector from different agents, including suppliers, industry, control entities and academia. Within this version, adjustments considered relevant were incorporated, in order to guarantee compliance with the objectives set forth from the beginning of the process in terms of expanding coverage and quality of services,” said Vice Minister of Connectivity and Digitalization Juan Sebastian Rozo.

The draft resolution will be available for comments until 20 February, 2018.
