CALFIRE Contracts RadioMobile for Location Tracking Technology
Tuesday, February 13, 2018 | Comments

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CALFIRE) entered into a contract with RadioMobile to provide technology to allow the department to locate and communicate with emergency response equipment statewide.

The project’s objective is to enhance the department’s situational awareness, enhancing firefighter and citizen safety and facilitating mission-critical data communications over a variety of networks such as broadband, narrowband and satellite.

Under the agreement, RadioMobile will provide a centralized location tracking application and a mobile data terminal solution that receives incident information, provides mapping and enables vehicle operators to communicate via a touchscreen application interfacing with a CAD system. RadioMobile will also provide the equipment, services and support needed to implement a statewide VHF mobile data system and integrate network switching between broadband/cellular, VHF and satellite for more than 1,200 CALFIRE-owned state resources.

CALFIRE is dedicated to the fire protection and stewardship of more than 31 million acres of California's privately owned wildlands. In addition, the department provides varied emergency services in 36 of the state's 58 counties via contracts with local governments.
