Globalstar introduced Sat-Fi2, a lightweight, portable satellite hot spot providing communications through any Wi-Fi-enabled smart device. The hot spot provides seamless connectivity powered by Globalstar’s satellite network and is the first product using Globalstar’s next-generation ground infrastructure.

Now available in the United States and Canada, the product aims to offer continuous communications, independent of terrestrial cellular networks.

“Sat-Fi2 is the industry’s most affordable and functional portable satellite Wi-Fi hot spot, allowing businesses, emergency service organizations, remote workers and more to have continuous communications connectivity,” said Jay Monroe, chairman and CEO of Globalstar. “We recognize that constant and seamless connectivity is critical for both business efficiency and safety, and we’re pleased to introduce this best-in-class tool.”

Along with an application, the device connects up to eight Wi-Fi-enabled iOS or Android devices to send and receive email and text messages, transmit voice calls, access the web, post to social media and ensure access to emergency responders through the integrated SOS button. Email functionality is seamless, and the app works on multiple email platforms.

Sat-Fi2 is designed for a wide range of consumer, enterprise and government markets including oil and gas, marine, alternative energy, government, emergency management, forestry, construction, commercial hunting and fishing, transportation and logistics — anyone who needs to stay connected when working or travelling off the grid. All devices require a service plan.
