Reply Comment Deadline Extended in 9-1-1 Call Routing NOI
Thursday, May 03, 2018 | Comments

The FCC granted an extension until June 28 to file reply comments in its notice of inquiry (NOI) into how to more quickly route wireless 9-1-1 calls to the proper 9-1-1 call center. The May 7 initial comment deadline, for which no extension was sought, remains unchanged.

The National Emergency Number Association (NENA), National Association of State 9-1-1 Administrators (NASNA), Texas 9-1-1 entities, West Safety Services, Comtech Communications and CTIA filed a motion for the extension.

The groups said that many interested parties expected to contribute comments and reply comments in response to the NOI will be attending the NENA 2018 National Conference and Expo scheduled June 16 – 21. The parties argued that granting the extension “will allow these critical stakeholders time to review, analyze and comment on all of the comments in the record.”

The FCC said that granting a one-week extension of the reply comment deadline will ensure that interested parties have adequate time to prepare full and informed reply comments without constraining the commission’s ability to consider a full record.

“We expect that this modest extension will result in a more robust record from all stakeholders,” the FCC said.

The extension order is here.
