The National 911 Program made available the seventh edition of the Next Generation 911 Standards Identification and Review.

The document is intended to provide 9-1-1 industry stakeholders with a thorough compilation of next generation 9-1-1 (NG 9-1-1)-related standards and contains criteria that can serve as the basis to achieving 9-1-1 interoperability across multiple jurisdictions.

While the National 911 Program is not a standards-setting body, it collaborates with more than 40 different standards development organizations (SDOs) to catalog and describe such standards.

With the document, 9-1-1 leaders have access to a robust list of standards that will support informed decisions for an effective transition to NG 9-1-1. The document helps to:
• Explain how standards are developed and accredited and why they are necessary.
• Bridge the gap between differing standards.
• Identify where additional work on standards is needed.

For quick reference, the 2018 report includes a “What’s New” section that highlights changes or updates to standards from the previous year. The National 9-1-1 Program encourages 9-1-1 stakeholders to monitor the standards on a regular basis, as they will assist the community in keeping pace with the everchanging emergency communications environment.

The National 911 Program said it is committed to updating the report annually.
