Norwalk Police Deploy Total Response System

The Norwalk (Connecticut) Police Department deployed the Total Response training and Computer-Aided Call Handling software (CACH) with structured protocols.

The protocols support 9-1-1 dispatchers from call pick-up to providing responders with timely information and issuing pre-arrival instructions to callers as needed. The system helps to transmit information to Norwalk's CAD software, providing responders with uniformly formatted information prior to their arrival on scene.

The system works better for responding units because everything is shared in the CAD system, said Training Coordinator Stacey LaRiccia.

Additional advantages include a faster path to dispatch, improved support for dispatchers during questioning, reduced chance of human error and greater call-handling consistency.
