FRA Offers $250 Million in Grants for PTC Deployments
Tuesday, May 22, 2018 | Comments

The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) released a notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) for $250 million in positive train control (PTC) systems grants under the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements Program.

The deadline is 45 days after publication in the Federal Register. At least $62.5 million of the PTC funds are available for rural projects.

A railroad must fully implement a PTC system on all required route miles by the end of 2018 unless a railroad qualifies for and obtains FRA approval of an alternative schedule — a Dec. 31, 2020, deadline — under the Positive Train Control Enforcement and Implementation Act of 2015 (PTCEI Act).

The full notice is here.
