Nordic Leaders Develop 5G Plan of Action, Target Mission-Critical Communications
Thursday, May 24, 2018 | Comments

The leaders of five Nordic countries adopted a letter of intent to cooperate closely to set up a common action plan for early adoption of 5G technology across the Nordic region. The ministers of Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland and Denmark said they agreed to the common vision of being the first and most integrated 5G region in the world and targeting mission-critical communications.

The deployment of 5G will require substantial investments as well as the appropriate regulatory framework. The ministers said they will cooperate closely to set up a common action plan for early adoption of 5G technology across the region.

The action plan encourages 5G technology for specific sectors including emergency services and law enforcement, transport and the energy sector. The plan also will encourage new testing facilities including test beds and to ensure coordination of 5G spectrum within the region.

The development of 5G will be monitored and followed up on by the Nordic Council of Ministers, facilitating implementation in cooperation with the Nordic governments, national digital authorities, and stakeholders from the information, communications and technology (ICT) and telecom industries.
