Ed Reynolds, former board member of the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet), is one of five people who will be inducted into the Wireless Hall of Fame in September by the Wireless History Foundation.

In 2012, Reynolds was appointed to the initial FirstNet board of directors where he served until earlier this year. During his career, Reynolds led the implementation of multiple wireless technologies from analog to 4G that shaped the wireless revolution. As chief network officer of Cingular, he was a member of the team that led the integration of the Cingular and AT&T Wireless networks.

Liz Maxfield will also be inducted into the hall of fame. Maxfield was founder of the Wireless History Foundation and the foundation’s first executive director. Maxfield was instrumental in the early development of the cellular industry from working on many of the first FCC license filings to facilitating the establishment and operation of inter-carrier information exchanges, which helped lay the foundation for seamless roaming. She retired from her day-to-day role in the foundation in 2016 but still serves as an instrumental volunteer and board member.

Barry A. Adelman, an attorney who served as a powerful and essential representative of the industry; Pat Cipov, president of Cipov Enterprises; and Alain Malobert, the first chairman of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) SMG2, the group that standardized the GSM radio interface, will also be inducted.

“Wireless has transformed the way the world connects and these individuals have played key roles in that transformation,” said Wireless History Foundation board member Rob Mechaley, CEO of MobileSphere Holdings and chairman of the 2018 selection committee. “The class of 2018 has made important contributions that fueled the technologic, regulatory and partnering innovations necessary to fuel the wireless revolution.”

The Wireless Hall of Fame dinner will take place at the Omni Hotel in Los Angeles Sept. 12.
