pei tel Communications announced that it had joined Bundesverband Professioneller Mobilfunk (PMeV), the German federal association of professional mobile radio (PMR).

The association comprises leading providers and users of communication systems designed for professional mobile use. In addition to identifying current rends, pei tel also aims to use its affiliation with the organization to forge ties with other members and engage in dialogue.

“Since we develop and produce our communication solutions ourselves, its absolutely crucial to recognize and respond to technical developments at an early stage,” said pei tel CEO Thomas Martin. “That’s especially true when it comes to changes in mobile communications standards.

For example, Martin said, Long Term Evolution (LTE) is spreading at an increasing rate. For a long time, the standard was hardly used in critical communications because of security concerns and inadequate network coverage, but LTE is now gaining ground in that segment.

“Developments in mobile communications standards often affect our products,” Martin said. “In particular, the question of whether or not a technology catches on is highly important to us.”

pei tel produces a variety of handsets, microphones and system solutions that are use for safety-critical communication at government agencies and companies, among other things. PMeV views itself as the leading store of expertise in Germany in this field. It brings providers and users together to discuss the opportunities and risks associated with different potential solutions and concepts with each other and evaluate different technologies and technical solutions.
