2 PSAPs Rerouting 9-1-1 Calls Following Hurricane Florence
Monday, September 17, 2018 | Comments

Two public-safety answering points (PSAPs) in North Carolina Sept. 16 have their 9-1-1 calls rerouted to another PSAP with location information following Hurricane Florence. Onslow County Communications and Pamlico County Communications were the two PSAPs according to the FCC’s Sept. 16 report based on data from its Disaster Information Reporting System (DIRS).

Ninety-nine counties in the geographic area were part of the DIRS disaster area.

The largest impact to communications was in North Carolina. There are 7.2 percent of the cell sites out of service, down from 10.7 percent Sept. 15. Carteret County in North Carolina has more than 40 percent of cell sites out of service. There are no cell sites affected in Virginia.

The number of cell site outages in a specific area does not necessarily correspond to the availability of wireless service to consumers in that area. The full report is here.
