South Korea’s National Procurement Office 18 October selected the preferred bidders for the country’s nationwide public-safety Long Term Evolution (PS-LTE) network, selecting two of the country’s three nationwide carriers for contract lots.

Korea Telecom (KT) was named the preferred bidder for Lots A and B, while SK Telecom (SKT) was selected as the preferred bidder for Lot C.

The contracts will be finalized by the end of October, and the first phase deployment project will begin in November and run for nine months. Two more nine-month phases will follow.

The three-lot procurement will begin simultaneously, and each lot will include a geographic coverage area of three three-phase buildout plans. For example, KT will be responsible for a portion of the coverage area in each of the three phases for Lots A and B.

LG U+, South Korea’s third nationwide commercial LTE carrier, was not named as a preferred bidder.

The procurement was first announced in August, and proposals were due 4 October.
