Sepura, Motorola Awarded National Airwave Terminal Contract

The Police ICT Co. awarded the national Airwave terminal procurement framework contract to Sepura and Motorola Solutions in a deal that has the potential for significant savings across police forces and the wider public sector. The framework offers a central, Police ICT Co.-managed framework contract for the supply of TETRA devices and accessories.

The framework contract, which is fully compliant with Public Contract Regulations, was procured for and on behalf of policing by The Police ICT Co. and frees forces of the burden of individually letting and re-letting stand-alone Public Contract Regulation-compliant contracts.

“This is excellent news for the police service and its public sector partners, who will also have access to the framework, ensuring full price transparency and lowest cost across the supply chain over the course of the framework agreement,” said Police ICT Co. CEO Ian Bell. “In addition to the clear and immediate benefits of significant efficiencies and discounts to forces, the fact that the company will manage the contract with Motorola and Sepura on their behalf will help streamline governance, reduce collective contract management burden and drive commonality.”

Sepura said in a statement it was included on Lot 1 of the framework award, which followed a rigorous and open procurement process.

The process, requested by the Home Office Emergency Services Mobile Communications Programme (ESMCP) and delivered by The Police ICT Co., was announced in August and concluded in November. The resultant framework will allow for a nationally coordinated approach that benefits Airwave user organizations through greater efficiencies in procurement and relationship management. The agreement will also help drive the future road map for ESMCP and ensure that users can continue to benefit from TETRA devices throughout the transition to the Emergency Services Network (ESN).

“Sepura acknowledges significant value in The Police ICT Co.’s successful establishment of a procurement framework for users to refresh their Airwave radios,” said Sepura’s U.K. Sales Director Gary Maughan. “We recognize that TETRA is the leading truly open standard for mission-critical communications. TETRA has continued to evolve, and Sepura is focused on delivering state-of-the-art devices and compelling applications. We will work with the Police ICT Co. framework to ensure that organizations are able to efficiently access the TETRA solutions that facilitate their day-to-day work of keeping the public safe.”

Sepura will use the framework to deliver its TETRA terminals, accessories and software solutions. The timing of the program is important as U.K. public-safety users look to maintain their fleets with proven, reliable end-user devices for critical voice applications. Sepura will continue to offer U.K. police forces and other Airwave users TETRA solutions that offer flexibility by dynamically deploying custom data applications that provide access to mission-critical data.

“We are pleased to be part of the national Airwave terminal framework contract with The Police ICT Co. to provide police forces with a very competitive offering of a wide range of devices and solutions for their mission-critical communications needs, including handheld, mobile and covert digital radio terminal options,” said Fergus Mayne, Motorola Solutions sales director for the U.K. and Ireland. “Our portfolio is designed for the specific needs of police forces.”

The Police ICT Co. is a private company limited by guarantee established, owned and funded by police and crime commissioners to support policing to make the public safer through better information, communications and technology (ICT).
