Finland, Norway Connect TETRA Networks

TETRA public-safety networks Nödnett in Norway and Virve in Finland are now connected, said Jarmo Vinkvist, CEO at Suomen Virveverkko, which operates the Virve network.

Finland and Norway made the first call between the networks in 2017.

In the first quarter of 2019, Virve plans to connect to Rakel, the TETRA network in Sweden, he said.

Earlier this year, officials from the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB), the Finnish State Security Networks Group and Norway’s Directorate of Emergency Communication (DNK) signed a letter of intent (LoI) to start a three-country project to design communications possibilities among emergency services in all three countries. The agreement covers TETRA and future technologies.

“We from Virve Suomen Erillisverkot-konserni are proud to serve and help public-safety authorities by enabling wider and better Nordic critical communications and cooperation without borders,” Vinkvist said.
