Barcelona Metro Expands Radio Fleet with Teltronic

Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB), the main public transport company in the metropolitan area of Catalan capital in Spain, continues to renew its bus fleet, selecting Teltronic to supply radio communications for the new vehicles.

The terminals are embedded in a rack specially designed for installation on buses. The new 84 units are added to those already in operation, so Teltronic equips nearly 1,200 buses that comprise Barcelona’s fleet, with almost 100 lines in operation.

More than a decade ago, Teltronic supplied a TETRA communications network to provide service to the bus network. The system allows updating the position of the entire fleet in only 20 seconds.

The collaboration between TMB and Teltronic was also extended to suburban transport, because the company was responsible for the TETRA communications system in line 9 of the Barcelona Metro, which with automatic driverless trains, requires data capacity and manages the commands sent to and from the control center, which remotely controls the operation of the trains.
