Europe Celebrates 1-1-2 Day 11 February
Monday, February 11, 2019 | Comments

Every year on 11 February, the European Union (EU) highlights its single emergency number 1-1-2. EU legislation adopted in 1991 allows people in distress to call the 1-1-2 emergency number from anywhere in the EU free.

Calls in the EU to 1-1-2 reached 140 million in 2018; that number is almost half of all emergency calls.

“1-1-2 is a life-saving number for all users,” said EU Commissioner for the Digital Economy and Society Mariya Gabriel. “The commission services are engaging actively with relevant member states authorities in order to address all outstanding issues and to secure swift and concrete solutions that ensure equivalent access to emergency services for everybody. The recently adopted European Communications Code and the political agreement on the European Accessibility Act reinforce our Union's commitment to ensure an inclusive society.”
