Communications International (Ci) and local partner Hurricane Electronics Inc. (HEI) were selected to supply and install an expanded Project 25 (P25) digital public-safety radio system for Jackson County, Mississippi, and its 1,600 users.

The Ci/HEI team will replace Jackson County’s end-of-life system with a turnkey, seven-site 800 MHz linear simulcast network that incorporates the latest Harris P25 Phases 1 and 2 technology. Ci’s customized solution will enable Jackson County to experience better reliability, seamless roaming and expanded coverage, as well as provide interoperability with the neighboring Harrison County, Mississippi, and Mobile County, Alabama, where Harris P25 systems are deployed and supported by HEI.

Jackson County’s new system design features Harris’ network that supports both LMR narrowband and Long Term Evolution (LTE) broadband data networks, a push-to-talk (PTT) platform for cellular phones and smart devices, and consoles at the county’s dispatch locations.

“Jackson County expressed a critical need for better coverage, and we are pleased to provide them with a solution that not only achieves this goal, but will significantly improve communications along the Gulf Coast I-10 corridor,” said Geno Viviano, Ci president of sales and service. “We understand how vital a reliable communications system is for the safety of the county’s residents and first responders, and we appreciate the opportunity to partner with them on this project.”

Located at the southeastern tip of Mississippi, Jackson County is home to more than 142,000 residents and covers a total area of 1,043 square miles. The Jackson County Emergency Communications District maintains the county’s public-safety radio network.
