India’s COAI, an association representing telecom, internet, technology and digital services companies, partnered with the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), a European information, communications and technology (ICT) standardization organization, to collaborate on areas of mutual interest.

ETSI and COAI have a common objective to perform and promote, directly or indirectly, regional and international standardization with the aim of contributing to the establishment of global information infrastructure.

“We are extremely excited to enter into this strategic partnership with ETSI,” said Rajan S. Mathews, director general, COAI. “This partnership will allow us to have a regular and continuous dialogue between EU and India to strengthen the standardization efforts in the field of ICT, through various workshops, conferences and meetings.”

ETSI Director General Luis Jorge Romero said the partnership will help ETSI to further leverage its activity in India and to promote the use of standards-based communication technologies. The agreement is also in line with the ETSI vision of creating globally acceptable, harmonized, open standards.

COAI started in 1995 as a registered, non-governmental society. COAI’s vision is to establish India as the global leader of innovative mobile communications infrastructure, products and services and achieve a national teledensity of 100%, including broadband.
