Communications International (Ci) and local partner CommTech were selected to supply and install a Project 25 (P25) Phase 2 digital public-safety radio system for Sumner County, Tennessee.

The L3Harris P25 network links 10 tower sites with a new Microwave Networks microwave system. Sumner County will use the latest in P25 technology and will have one system for all of the county’s first responders.

Sumner County is located on the central northern border of the Tennessee, in Middle Tennessee. The new system will serve the cities of Gallatin, Hendersonville, Westmoreland, Millersville and Portland.

The new system will provide agencies with enhanced and seamless coverage throughout the county, with 95% portable radio coverage countywide, as well as in-building coverage in the metropolitan areas. The network also offers instant connections to assisting agencies and sufficient capacity for future growth. The core network supports both LMR narrowband and Long Term Evolution (LTE) broadband data networks, as well as the BeOn push-to-talk (PTT) platform for cellular phones and smart devices.

CommTech will provide the county with service and maintenance support for the life of the system.

“Sumner County’s ability to communicate countywide and regionally is critical during catastrophic weather events like tornadoes, flooding or regional wildfires, as well as during other emergency situations,” said Ci Chief Strategy Officer Geno Viviano. “Sumner County’s new system provides the features and coverage enhancements they require with the ability to migrate to future broadband technologies.”
