FCC Chairman Ajit Pai appointed Jeffrey Prince as chief economist of the FCC. Prince serves as a professor of business economics and public policy at the Indiana University Kelley School of Business.

“Dr. Prince’s wealth of experience and research on the telecommunications market and internet adoption will be of great value to the Office of Economics and Analytics and the entire commission,” said Pai. “I’m pleased that Dr. Prince has agreed to join the agency and look forward to his input on the economic aspects of important policy issues such as closing the digital divide and auction design and execution.”

The FCC chief economist advises the chairman, commissioners, bureaus and offices on economic issues and typically serves a one-year term. Prince will work within the recently established Office of Economics and Analytics.

Babette Boliek was the past FCC chief economist.

“Dr. Boliek’s keen understanding of the intersection of law and economics proved to be an incredible asset as the commission was creating the Office of Economics and Analytics,” Pai said. “Many of the items we worked on and processes we established over the past year were greatly strengthened by her input. I very much appreciate her efforts and wish her well as she returns to Pepperdine.”
