Michigan Statewide Network Launches 25th Anniversary Campaign

The Office of Michigan’s Public Safety Communications System (MPSCS) kicked off a communications campaign titled, “12 Months to 25 Years, This Is Us,” leading up to its 25-year anniversary in 2020.

During the next year, MPSCS will share its story and user stories and highlight the evolvement of the system culminating with a Sept. 14, 2020, celebration marking a quarter of a century serving first responders’ emergency communications needs, a letter from MPSCS Director Brad Stoddard said.

“The journey to a connected community of public-safety organizations started in 1995,” the letter said. “It was determined at that time that a statewide communications network was critical to the effective operations statewide for the Michigan State Police and the safety of our citizens. The leaders of the MPSCS at that time did not envision what the system would become: the foundation for the nation’s mature model that would lead to today’s broad-scale system linking local, state, federal, tribal and private first responders through a shared, interoperable statewide MPSCS network.”

Stoddard asked users to share stories from the past 24 years, and MPSCS plans to produce videos, podcasts and literature recognizing the history and milestones of the organization, the system and the role the system has played in evolving emergency interoperable communications.

“Thank you for helping the first responder community and the MPSCS reach this milestone,” he said. “We collectively have accomplished so much together during the last 24 years, but what matters most is what we do and where we go next. We acknowledge that our greatest accomplishments still lie ahead of us and are confident the collaboration that brought us this far will continue to carry us forward for the next 25 years.”
