The Ethiopia Electric Utility (EEU) company deployed a new mission-critical radio communications system from Motorola Solutions in the region of greater Addis Ababa. The new system will help improve the safety of grid operations and maintenance staff and elevate the level of service for millions of customers in the region.

The Project 25 (P25) system will support the mission-critical communications needs of EEU teams including hundreds of users from service to repair and restoration teams. Some of the core communications sites are powered by a hybrid electric and solar-powered system and include a backup energy solution, ensuring communications at all times. The system is highly scalable and designed to enable the EEU to further expand the coverage to other regions.

“As a grid operator, two of our major concerns are the safety of our employees and the service we provide our customers,” said Shiferae Telila, CEO of EEU. “In order to achieve both, it’s crucial to have a reliable communications system to support our teams’ mission-critical needs. Our uncompromising approach to safety led us to choose a system deployed by top mission-critical users globally.”
