L3Harris P25-LTE Radios Receive FirstNet Ready Certification, New Mobile Radio Released

A pair of L3Harris Project 25 radios that support Long Term Evolution (LTE) operation were certified for use on the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) network.

Both the XL-185P single-band and XL-200P multiband radios received FirstNet Ready certification. With the certification, both portable radios now work on FirstNet’s band 14 spectrum.

The XL-200P operates in VHF, UHF and 700/800 MHz, as well as commercial LTE spectrum and supports analog operation, as well. The single-band XL-185P supports one of VHF, UHF, 700/800 MHz or 900 MHz, as well as LTE bands.

The XL-200P and XL-185P radios already in the field can be upgraded to support operation on the FirstNet network for a fee, said Jayne Leighton, director AT&T/FirstNet, public safety communications and professional communications, L3Harris.

There are 100,000 XL radios in the field, a L3Harris spokesperson said.

“We’re pleased to welcome these devices to the FirstNet ecosystem,” said Bob Sloan, chief operating officer, FirstNet program at AT&T, in a statement. “With the XL-185P and the XL-200P, first responders that prefer the radio form factor can now benefit from the data-rich information and increased situational awareness that FirstNet delivers without sacrificing their choice in device.”

L3Harris also announced the release of the XL-200M, a multiband mobile radio addition to the company’s XL line. Similar to the portable radios in the line, the new mobile radio supports VHF, UHF, 700/800 MHz and 900 MHz.

The goal of the new mobile radio is to help simplify the communications setup inside of a vehicle by integrating support for multiple communications types in one device, said Jeremy Elder, director of product management, public safety and professional communications, L3Harris. “That’s the real value proposition for this.”

The radio does not support LTE operation at launch but will be upgradeable to support LTE operation. After the product is certified for LTE operation, L3Harris plans to receive FirstNet Ready certification as well, Elder said.
