Friday, November 15, 2019 | Comments

Finland took another step forward on the path towards mission-critical broadband service by publishing the Virve 2.0 request for information (RFI) on mission-critical services in the European Union’s Tender Electronic Daily Service.

Virve is Finland’s nationwide shared authority mission-critical TETRA services network for public safety, transport and utilities.

The RFI covers adding Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP)-standards-based mission critical voice, data and video services to Virve 2.0. Answers and comments from all parties working on mission-critical broadband communications are invited. The country is especially keen to learn from those who already are or aim to be suppliers of 3GPP-defined mission-critical services or related elements and functions.

The deadline for responses is 17 January by email to

Two major procurements — namely core network and radio access service — to set up a mobile broadband network are already ongoing.
